At the beginning of the year, we want to draw attention to an important ritual that often gets too little attention – celebration. Traditionally, December is the month of reflection, we celebrate celebrations, the end of the year, the year to come and look back on our achievements and conditions. Celebration is an important part of the reflection and is decisive for positivity.
The opposite, bias of negativity, also known as the negativity effect, means that although the positive and negative events are as intense, things of a more negative nature (eg unpleasant thoughts, emotions, social interactions and harmful / traumatic events) tend to have a greater effect on one’s psyche than neutral or positive things. In other words, very positive events will have less influence over one’s behavior and intellect than something equally emotional but negative.
While it is important to review failures and try to learn how to prevent them in the future, we forget to appreciate the things that actually worked well. According to the theory of negative effect, the impact of the positive things is lower than the negative. Should we at least not try to compensate it by paying attention to the positive things in life and giving life a positive wonder by celebrating?
Look at what you’ve been doing during the year gone. Take the time to go back and ask yourself “What have I done? Did I strengthen any relationships? Did I solve any problems? Was there anything I’m looking forward to? Did I do something that stood out? ”
If you look closely then you will find that there is a lot that you have already forgotten. You may have had a hectic year that has made you forget goals that you have just reached when you threw into other activities in the pursuit of reaching your next goal. If you always strive for the next thing, you will never feel that you have achieved anything. By taking the time to review what you have done and celebrate, you can begin to appreciate your development, achievements, and you will learn that your efforts are influencing you as well as the people around you.
Review your inner mind (what are your specific strengths, your gifts, your achievements and the obstacles you managed to overcome) as well as your environment, your relationship with your partner, your relatives and colleagues who helped you succeed. Where somewhere where the relationships were extra strong, where did you work extra well with someone, what new relationships did you establish and how did you celebrate?
